Actually, Jill, I thought that was a perfect graphic…a very simple and tender way to illustrate a very complicated emotion. I think your blog captures something very important – how it’s the simple, every day, “normal” stuff that sometimes tears at your heart the most, in grieving. I lost my brother a few years back, so it’s not the same as what you’re going through, but what’s been true is that you find a new normal. And sometimes, those everyday things will actually bring a smile and a memory that feels warm instead of just painful. I’m wishing for those moments for you…
Thanks, Gigi. One thing I’ve learned is that grief is grief and while our losses are different, we all have to work through it. Of course, losing a husband entails a lot of different issues so it is more work at times. People tell me about people they’ve lost and I think, “oh, that’s worse than me” but really this isn’t a competition so I try to avoid thinking that way.
